Mrs. Megan Mayer And Her Kindergarten Class At Roosevelt...

On Tuesday, May 24, 2016 I observed Mrs. Megan Mayer and her kindergarten class at Roosevelt Elementary School. When I got to her class, they were preparing themselves to go to the school garden and learn about fruits, and planting. For this activity they partnered up with another kindergarten class right next door. With the two classes we all walked outside to the back of the playground where Roosevelt has a miniature garden. Between both of the classes there were three groups, A, B, and C as well as three sections of the garden activity. One group would sit down with the other kindergarten teacher Mrs. Peterson and they would draw what they had learned in class previously, another group would go with a different teacher who worked at the†¦show more content†¦She told me about her classroom rules which are mutual respect, attentive listening and appreciations no put downs. She spent the first three weeks of school going over these three rules and afterwards she had each stu dent write their name on colored paper which is their contract, their signature on that paper means they will follow those rules throughout the year. She has another rule in her classroom called â€Å"Kelso’s Choices†. Kelso’s Choices are nine different choices they can make on how to solve their problems in class. When the students come to an issue they have to choose two of the choices on the poster before going to the teacher. Some of the choices on there include, walking away, talking it out, apologizing, telling them to stop, etc. I really liked the idea of Kelso’s Choices because it teaches them problem solving as well as social skills. Instead of being unfair or going to the teacher they have the opportunity to solve the issues and be fair towards each other. After recess it was the children’s â€Å"Planned review time† which is where they all spread throughout the classroom and explore in the classroom and play with toys they like and play with their friends. This is where the kids learn and practice their social skills, practice being kind to one another,

Southern Stingray Facts and Information

Southern stingrays, also called Atlantic southern stingrays, are a normally docile animal that frequents warm, shallow coastal waters. Description Southern stingrays have a diamond-shaped disc that is dark brown, gray or black on its upper side and white on the lower side. This helps southern stingrays camouflage themselves in the sand, where they spend most of their time. Southern stingrays have a long, whip-like tail with a barb at the end that they use for defense, but they rarely use it against humans unless they are provoked. Female southern stingrays grow much larger than males. Females grow to about a 6-foot span, while males about 2.5 feet. Its maximum weight is about 214 pounds. The southern stingrays eyes are on top of its head, and behind them are two spiracles, which allow the stingray to take in oxygenated water. This water is expelled from the stingrays gills on its underside. Classification Kingdom: AnimaliaPhylum: ChordataClass: ElasmobranchiiOrder: MyliobatiformesFamily: DasyatidaeGenus: DasyatisSpecies: Americana Habitat and Distribution The southern stingray is a warm water species and inhabits primarily shallow tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean (as far north as New Jersey), the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Feeding Southern stingrays eat bivalves, worms, small fish, and crustaceans. Since their prey is often buried in the sand, they un-bury it by forcing streams of water out their mouth or flapping their fins over the sand. They find their prey using electro-reception and their excellent senses of smell and touch. Reproduction Little is known about the mating behavior of southern stingrays, as it has not been observed often in the wild. A paper in the Environmental Biology of Fishes reported that a male followed a female, engaged in pre-copulatory biting, and then the two mated. Females may mate with multiple males during the same breeding season. Females are ovoviviparous. After a gestation of 3-8 months, 2-10 pups are born, with an average of 4 pups born per litter. Status and Conservation The IUCN Red List states that the southern stingray is of least concern in the U.S. because its population appears to be healthy. But overall, it is listed as data deficient, because there is little information available on population trends, bycatch, and fishing in the rest of its range. A large ecotourism industry has arisen around southern stingrays. Stingray City in the Cayman Islands is a popular destination for tourists, who come to observe and feed the swarms of stingrays that gather there. While the stingrays animals are usually nocturnal, research conducted in 2009 showed that the organized feeding is affecting the stingrays, so that instead of eating during the night, they eat all day and sleep all night. Southern stingrays are preyed upon by sharks and other fishes. Their primary predator is the hammerhead shark. Sources Arkive. 2009. Southern Stingray (Dasyatis Americana). (Online) Arkive. Loyalty to ones king Essay Example For Students

Loyalty to ones king Essay As soon as the Cid caught sight of the King he ordered all his men to haltHe knelt down on his hands and knees on the ground and with his teeth he pulled up a mouthful of grass. With tears of joy streaming from his eyes he showed in this way his complete submission to his liege lord, Alfonso. What would cause a grown man to act in such a manner? The Cid was the ruler of Valencia, and the leader of thousands of soldiers. The Cid has defeated countless enemies and have been victorious in all his wars, he could have been almost thought of as a man without fear. Yet, as soon as he caught sight of the King who has exiled him from his land, he broke down and acted like an animal in front of the King. The loyalty and respect the Cid has for King Alfonso is the deepest between any characters in the entire poem. Although loyalty and respect is the deepest between the Cid and King Alfonso, there is also a great amount of loyalty and respect among different characters also. Such as the Cid and his loyal vassal Minaya, the Cid to his wife Don Jimena, his two daughters Dona Elvira and Dona Sol, and the Cid to his army. Loyalty and respect are very important themes that progresses stronger and stronger throughout the poem, loyalty can do good and bad to loved ones, but in this poem, it eventually led to conflicts with severe consequences. The Cid stayed loyal to King Alfonso throughout the entire poem. Never once did the Cid say anything bad or offensive towards the King. Although King Alfonso ostracized the Cid from his land, the Cid still respected the King and stayed loyal to him. The Cid was framed by Count Garcia Ordonez, Ordonez accused the Cid of greed. Ordonez told the King that the Cid kept money from him, which upset the King and eventually led to the Cid being exiled from the land. After being exiled, the Cid left the land with a small army and conquered numerous enemies and land. Even though King Alfonso was the one who sent the Cid away, the Cid tried to regain the position he once had in King Alfonsos heart. In trying to do so, the Cid sent thirty horses, all saddled and bridled, with swords hanging from their saddlebows. King Alfonso was pleasantly surprised by such an action. This again proves the amount of loyalty and respect the Cid has for King Alfonso. Not only does he still remain loyal to the King, he even sends a great portion of his rich spoils from his victory to the King. King Alfonso in return respects the Cids actions and allows people from his own land to go and serve in the Cids army. As the Cids army grew, the Cid conquered greater opponents. All along the way, the Cid fought under King Alfonsos name and in the name of Christianity. The Cid considered the land he conquered also to be the land of King Alfonso. After winning a major battle with the Moorish people, the Cid prepared 100 saddled horses to give to King Alfonso. The Cid sent the horses with Minaya, his right hand man. With the gift he also asked the king to allow his wife and two daughters to join him in his kingdom of Valencia. By doing so, it shows another great sign of respect and loyalty to King Alfonso. He could just invade the land and take his family away from King Alfonsos grasp, but yet he sends a gift of one hundred saddled horses and asks for permission for his family to join him in Valencia. .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 , .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .postImageUrl , .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 , .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:hover , .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:visited , .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:active { border:0!important; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:active , .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73 .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u59b7de71eda8421ca14fc0741d300d73:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Voiceless Essay The King was very impressed to see the gift that the Cid has sent, and sees the fact that the Cid still truly respects him.
